Outreach

As a scientist, it’s part of my job to share my knowledge and expertise with people outside the world of science and academia. I love take part in outreach activities whether this be a public lecture, a talk in a pub or a breakout room through the aether of Zoom.

I also talk about science on my Blog and Twitter.

I'm happy to get involved in outreach activities so feel free to get in touch if you are an event organiser or science promoter.

Here is a summary of recent and upcoming public engagement activities.

Astronomy on Tap - #ScienceWeek

For Science Week in 2019 I travelled to the Birr Castle Observatory in County Offaly, Ireland. In the morning we met with 60 first year students from Coláiste Iósaef in County Limerick at the local theatre where other PhD students from the UCD Relativity group gave short talks before doing some black hole themed activities.

Later in the evening we attended the Astronomy on Tap event at the Chestnut Pub organised by I-LOFAR and the Birr Castle Observatory where I gave a talk on gravitational waves - Ripples in Space and Time. I would fully support every public talk to be accompanied by a lovely pint of Guinness.

In case you didn't manage to make it down to Co. Offaly, the event was also live streamed by the YouTube channel, Space Videos, and you can watch it here. The video features my talk and the proceeding talk on Black Hole Astronomy by my PhD supervisor, Dr. Niels Warburton.

Special thanks to Aine Flood, I-LOFAR and the Birr Castle Observatory for organising this and inviting me to speak.
